2. Take note of your current stock.
With all your spices out, go through each one. Toss, I mean it, toss everything that are expired. No exceptions. And even if they’re not yet expired but it’s past their prime, throw it away.

- There is no more strong aroma.
- The color is faded and dull.
- There is no potent taste.
Take note of your inventory. And categorize your spices. The easiest and most practical way to classify the spices are:
A. Everyday Staples – You use these spices every single day.
B. Used Once in a While – These are spices that you use once in a while like Curry powder or Coriander.
C. Seasonal Spices – These spices are used only for special or seasonal occasions like pumpkin spice extract or peppermint.
D. Baking Items – For me, I separate my baking items from my cooking essentials. But if you do not have the big collection, that is okay. Vanilla extract and food color are fine there.
3. Get your supplies for organization ready.
Yes, that’s right. We need tools. And these are what the professional organizers do. This is their strategy.
Think of spice jars, spice bottles, and spice labels. You can also create your own labels with a labeler.
And don’t forget your organizing tools like lazy susan, spice rack, or tiered spice holders. This is what I use and I personally love it. It can be customized, very sturdy and holds a lot of spice jars. Perfect to organize spice cabinet!

4. Pour the spices in the jar and label each one.
Make sure to include the expiration dates. Or if you prefer not to transfer the spices into a different spice jar or bottle, that’s fine.
Wipe down the old jar and spice bottles, so there’s no spice powdered sprinkled on its mouth and cover. You’re not only able to organize the spice rack/cabinet but also clean and wipe the whole cabinet down.
