Light
Lighting is one of the first things you should take into account when designing or decorating your bedroom. Does your room have lots of natural light? Or not so much? Or what are the light sources in your room?
This will dictate where you will place your bed and work around it. Interior designers and even “feng shui” experts advise us to never place your bed in front of the window. It should be adjacent or at the opposite way.
This will also tell you what window treatments you will need or want. And what other fixtures you will have to install to illuminate the room.
Paint
The paint or color of the room pronounces the mood and vibes of the room. This subtle point makes a huge difference. A change in paint color changes the whole aura of the room.
Most go for neutrals or white and those are amazing bedroom colors. Or light or pale blue to induce calmer sleep.
TIP: If you’re more of a morning person, paint it lighter. It mimics the daytime look. But if you’re more of a night owl, you can go for a darker hue.
Bed
Bedroom is not a bedroom without of course… a bed. But trust me when I say, purchase your bed only after you’ve seen the bedroom, painted the room, and considered the light sources. And most importantly, THE size of the bedroom.
Bed is the foundation of the room and bedroom decor ideas can go around what you’re going for. If you’re looking for a glam bed style, rustic, boho chic style, or simple, family bed, go for it!
And note that bed is something you should not buy ‘just because’. Do your research and find which bed is the best for you. Look around. Compare comfortability, sturdiness, and prices. This is something worth investing for.

Light Fixtures
When decorating a bedroom, light is one of the first things to consider. So, in conjunction with that, light fixtures should be taken into account as well.
Are you satisfied with the natural lighting? Or do you want more light sources? Like lamps or ceiling lights.
This is the time you can start tying up the look you’re going for. Do you prefer chandeliers? Scone lights? Floor lamps? Or smart lights, which I adore, by the way.
Window Treatment
Are you team curtains or team blinds? Or both? Windows are a huge part in bedroom decor ideas.
This is something you can explore your creativity.
If you prefer layering, say you already have blinds and you want curtains, too. That’s okay! And picking the right curtain is something you should consider. With thousands of options out there online and in-store, curtains are something you can easily change, update, or mix and match. These not need to be very expensive.
I prefer my room to be really dark at night so I always go for blackout curtains and layer it with sheer curtains for the morning.
Seating
I often hear this, why do we need to have seating if we can sit on the bed? That’s actually a good point. However, if you have a room with ample space and you choose to fill up the room, finding a chair or bench would be a great solution.
Night Stand
Having a night stand next to your bed is more than just bedroom decor ideas. It’s a great way for added storage and when you have things you always use (ahem phone charger! ahem ring holder!)
And if you’re more into exploring bedroom decor ideas, try finding a matching night stand that go well with the bedroom’s vibes.
Closet and Storage
These are must-haves in the bedroom. If you have a separate closet room where it’s more than enough for your personal things, lucky you! But for some that needs more avenues for storage, you can explore armoire, dresser, or accessory mirror storage.
I personally love double-duty furniture like my bench that doubles as storage. Or accessory holder that doubles as full body mirror.
Hanging or floating shelves have also been a popular choice for extra storage and bedroom decor ideas.

Wall Bedroom Decor Ideas
Hanging photo frames, canvas, or paintings are great options to spice up your bedroom walls. This also helps create the mood in the bedroom.
Choose what fits your style but DO NOT overdo it. Overdoing decoration and too small items often end us looking cluttered and messy.
Finishing Touches
Once you purchased your bed and other pieces of furniture, decided on the color and style, the finishing touches are just icing on the cake.
