Keeping your room clean and tidy should never be a lot of work.

Our room is one of the places in our homes that we very much utilize. My mom used to say this to me : “Keeping your room clean should not be looked at as a chore. Instead, you should keep it clean in preparation for your personal use.” She even trained us to make our beds every single morning.

And I thank her for that. Having an organized space helps me focus more and relax better especially during bedtime.

How To Organize Your Room

1. Have a designated space for everything.

One major trick on how to organize your room is having a designated space for everything. If it should be in the closet, place it in there. If it goes in the bathroom, get it situated there. If it doesn’t belong in the bedroom, take it outside.

If you have a very busy lifestyle, try having a catch-all bin or tray for your keys, wallet, or anything.

2. Use multi-functional items.

In this modern way of life, it pays to have multi-functional items. Go for items or furniture that can be used for more than one purpose.

Our bedroom bench doubles as storage and the covers can be flipped as bed trays. We also have an air purifier that doubles as sleep sound machine and nightlight. One item to replace the other appliances.

3. No clothes outside of closet.

To organize your room, this should be a golden rule. No clothes outside of the closet. Period. Clothes create clutter and should be not on your bed unless it’s folding time.

4. No shoes on the floor.

Just like clothes, shoes create clutter instantly. Have a designated space for your shoes like a shoe rack or closet.

Another trick on how to organize your room is to keep all the eyes sores out of sight, maximize storage in the bedroom. Keep all the dangling wires out of sight. And to pick out bins and baskets to have a place for everything.

One pro tip is having under bed storage or behind the door hanging racks.

6. Clear your nightstand of clutter.

Nightstand is one of the main culprits of clutter. On how to organize your room, keep the nightstands neat and tidy. First, take everything out first. And wipe it down. Start organizing only the things you really need all the time. Think of your lamp, a book or two (no more than that), a tray for small items, and a decor (like a vase of flowers or succulents).

Another hack is to purchase a nightstand that has drawers and storage.
